Decision Terms

Below we provide an overview of the decision terms used for manuscripts at eiRxiv as well as how you are able to cite a manuscript at different stages of the review process on applications or resumes (as a reminder we do not fast track manuscripts at eiRxiv).

Stage 1. Mentor Approved

  •  Approved – The manuscript meets the basic research and ethical standards set by the mentor. Moves to Pre-Review.
  • Revision Required – The mentor requests modifications before approval. Resubmission needed.
  • Not Approved – The mentor determines that the manuscript is not ready for submission.

Stage 2. Pre-Review

  •  Passed Pre-Review – The manuscript meets clarity, structure, and reporting guidelines. Moves to Accepted stage.
  • Minor Revisions Required – The manuscript has small issues that need correction before acceptance.
  • Major Revisions Required – Significant changes are needed; the manuscript must be revised and resubmitted for another pre-review.
  • Rejected – The manuscript does not meet the minimum quality standards for publication.

Stage 3. Accepted

  •  Accepted for Publication – The manuscript is approved for formatting and assignment of a DOI.
  • Formatting Revisions Required – Minor adjustments needed before final publication.

Stage 4. Published

  •  Published – The manuscript is publicly available on the preprint server.
  • Withdrawn – The author or editorial team removes the preprint due to errors, ethical concerns, or other justified reasons.
